What a Phone call!

I got a phone call during Devotional one morning, it as around 9 a.m. CST here is how it went:

Madi: Hello?

She hands the phone to me, with a very funny look on her face.

Me: Hello?
Caller: Hi, do you know me?
Me: Um, who is this?
Caller: It is Clara.
Me: Oh, HI Clara
(thinking her Mother had dialed the number so we could chat)
How are you?
Clara: Good, who is this?
ME: This is Aunt Dee, I was there when you were born.
Clara: You remember me!?
Me: Yes, I remember you.
Clara: I'm 4 now.
Me: WOW, you are a big girl.
ME: Oh, is your mom there? Can I talk to her?
Clara: My mom is getting strong at the Army now.
Me: is someone else there?
Clara: Yeah, my daddy.
ME: OK, (pause.... thinking he is going to answer the phone now)
Clara: Ok, BYE!

(I am assuming) This tenacious little 4 year old called me from her fathers cell phone all on her own, we had a pleasant conversation, and she was done. I wonder how many other calls were made of this nature?

What a hoot!

Happy Birthday Gracie!

Gracie my darling turned 9 years old. She is such a fun kid. She is inventive and creative, she loves to search for bugs, and snails and frogs. She is most comfortable around boys, as most girls don't want to get as dirty as this gal gets in play!

her best friend is Joseph Grove, and the 2 of them are like peas in a pod.

For her birthday we had a little family party each of her siblings had scrounged and saved so they could shower her with gifts, some of them were pencils, pens, art work they had created.

Here is a picture of Wes playing his "Mowry Tongue warrior" face/ game/ i don't what to classify it as??? He screams as he pushes his tongue out, and as the boys get older (hint hint, older) they do it back and love it. Right now Eli is a bit young for it, and it scares the pants off him. this pic shows him begin to cry each time Wes does it. I had to finally tell him enough. Men. they think the boys will be born tough, and love rough & tumble from the start. When little boys are born, they love to be cuddled and made to be safe just like the little girls!

July 2009

I have been scolded that I had not made any posts lately.
I suppose I have nothing (good) to say. I am working on my personal goals, we have made a list of academic achievement goals, and the kids have been playing lots & lots.

Zeke is Trouble with a capital "T" he loves to keep us all hoping. HE was lucky enough to have a friend come over yesterday and play with him, boy they had a GREAT time! The chased, and rode bikes (even shared) and then they got into the kiddie pool. and that was all she wrote, they splashed and jumped in the 20" of water until the sun went down!

I had to bribe them to come inside and eat dinner.

We made home made pizza, but had to get creative since we ran out of mozzarella cheese, so it was cheddar for the kids & white for my veggie pizza.

The older girls had fun playing with thier guests as well. They dressed up, and put make up on (which was promptly removed) and then they sang Karaoke. Good kids make play time lots of fun, I am grateful for friends who have done a FINE job raising thier children to be polite, kind & a pleasure to spend time with.

Right now the kids are at a primary activity, and I am enjoying a quite house.

Wes is with Madison who is mowing lawns in town. She is helping her friend Jake who has a mowing business, but his normal helper is out of town, and he had 5 lawns to do today. So they all went out with mowers & edge trimmers and are hard at work. I am so proud of Madi. she is a Good kid, and she loves to work hard & earn her money!

Wes is hanging out and driving them from place to place, the kids are lucky to have one good parent who is willing to sacrifice thier time so that they can work & earn money.

Good reads

The Mouse and The Motorcycle The Mouse and The Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I still remember the first time I read this one. What adventure, what fun, how clever this little mouse is. I loved this book when I was 7, and I love it now, reading it aloud to the kids just makes us all laugh & giggle.

Letter from NRA on Judge Sotomayer

Direct quote from

"Joint Statement

Wayne Lapierre, Executive Vice President, National Rifle Association
And
Chris W. Cox, Executive Director, National Rifle Association - Institute For Legislative Action
On
Judge Sonia Sotomayor's Nomination To The United States Supreme Court"

Other than declaring war, neither house of Congress has a more solemn responsibility than the Senate's role in confirming justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. As the Senate considers the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, Americans have been watching to see whether this nominee - if confirmed - would respect the Second Amendment or side with those who have declared war on the rights of America's 80 million gun owners.

From the outset, the National Rifle Association has respected the confirmation process and hoped for mainstream answers to bedrock questions. Unfortunately, Judge Sotomayor's judicial record and testimony clearly demonstrate a hostile view of the Second Amendment and the fundamental right of self-defense guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution.

It is only by ignoring history that any judge can say that the Second Amendment is not a fundamental right and does not apply to the states. The one part of the Bill of Rights that Congress clearly intended to apply to all Americans in passing the Fourteenth Amendment was the Second Amendment. History and congressional debate are clear on this point.

Yet Judge Sotomayor seems to believe that the Second Amendment is limited only to the residents of federal enclaves such as Washington, D.C. and does not protect all Americans living in every corner of this nation. In her Maloney opinion and during the confirmation hearings, she deliberately misread Supreme Court precedent to support her incorrect view.

In last year's historic Heller decision, the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment guarantees the individual's right to own firearms and recognizes the inherent right of self-defense. In addition, the Court required lower courts to apply the Twentieth Century cases it has used to incorporate a majority of the Bill of Rights to the States. Yet in her Maloney opinion, Judge Sotomayor dismissed that requirement, mistakenly relying instead on Nineteenth Century jurisprudence to hold that the Second Amendment does not apply to the States.

This nation was founded on a set of fundamental freedoms. Our Constitution does not give us those freedoms - it guarantees and protects them. The right to defend ourselves and our loved ones is one of those. The individual right to keep and bear arms is another. These truths are what define us as Americans. Yet, Judge Sotomayor takes an opposite view, contrary to the views of our Founding Fathers, the Supreme Court, and the vast majority of the American people.

We believe any individual who does not agree that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right and who does not respect our God-given right of self-defense should not serve on any court, much less the highest court in the land. Therefore, the National Rifle Association of America opposes the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the position of Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court.

- NRA -

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America's oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military

A photo I have been waiting a LONG time to share....

I took a couple of these, Mom took one, Abigel took one and I put together this collage of Eli's first few days.

I Had to wait to show anyone, since one of the photos was used as a Baby Gift to a sweet girl in the ward. Her mother did not want her to accidentally see it before she was able to give it to her.

I am happy to say the gift was a smashing hit, I put it into PS and created a merged doc, with a poem. It brought the new momma to tears, mostly Because her mother created an amazing & Inspired poem.

Here is my Collage:

And here is the gift we printed at 11x14 and put it in a beautiful gilded frame:

They had a live band, a fishing contest, free hot dogs, and a soap-box contest.

Zeke charmed the pants off everyone with his air guitar & dance moves. he was quite reserved and shy, so you can imagine what it looks like when he is on inhibited!

New Haircuts... all around!

Madi in Texas & Abi with me, got haircuts. Here is Abigel's. (SO CUTE!)

And Madi got one too. (her picture is still loading via a cell phone transmission. may not be very HQ) Stay tuned.....
