Busy times in the Spring....

I brush-hogged & Chain sawed our 10 acres, and built an electric fence for the goats, (I still have to solve the water issue before I can move them over there, but it is a start!)

If we could get rich by selling POISON IVY my land would be a gold mine! I have never EVER seen so much poisonous plant in one place. AM~AZING!

We have been super busy, we plowed and then tilled the 3 acre plot, it rained today, so we cannot plant just yet, but we are anxious to get the corn & beans planted.

Last night we had the 'pre-camp' over niter, and boy was it a doosey.

The girls had to pass off cooking with 2 new techniques. So here was the menu:

Chicken on a string (over the fire)
Veggie Kabobs
Aboriginal Potatoes (mud covered and baked in hot coals)

It was funny to watch them, and they had a good time (I think)

Then at bedtime I tucked myself in at 11:30 p.m. two other leaders were left at the camp fire, and the girls escalated into squeals and giggles until 12:30 when I got back up and asked them to go squeal in their own tents.

It got quiet and I fell asleep, then the rain started. IT was a Heck-uva storm.
The thunder rumbled the ground, and the lightning was less than 2 seconds from the thunder.

I worried about the girls, but didn't hear anything (who could over that thunder?) I figured they had all stayed in their tents, (wishful thinking?)
And tried to go back to sleep.

then at 4:30 a.m. I woke again, worried and put my shoes on, not knowing what good it would do for me to get hit by lightning, I laid back down.

then at 5:30 a.m. I was up for good, the sunrise had begun, and the girls were giggling in earnest again.

We made Muffins baked in an orange peel, and bacon eggs & toast in a paper bag.

HA! Here is where my patience ran out, It was starting to storm some more, and I was hungry and tired, so I tried to build up the fire while the cooking was going on, instead of finishing the food, I finished it off, it burned to a crisp of fell directly into the fire. Every one was tired of creative cooking (as was I) and the rain and thunder began again.

We broke camp and started calling parents to invite them to pick up the girls, I felt bad waking some of the parents up, but then, hey their girls kept me up all night ;)

Touché!

So now I am a ZOMBIE So tired I can hardly keep my eyes open, and I made dinner for the missionaries, and took these pictures of the new steps on my AWESOME porch!

LOVE the new steps; I am VERY happy with how they turned out!

And Now I wait for LIA TO ARRIVE!!@@##!!

YIPEEE!!!

Check List

Sweet Corn (Check)

Popcorn (Check)

Cabbage (looking good)

Potatoes (starting to peek out of soil!)

Allie called me last night, at 12:03 I woke and answered thinking surely someone had died.

nope she just wanted to Thank me, for remembering her sons birthday (no sarcasm involved I really did remember it!)

We had a nice chat, until 1:16 a.m.

Alas my day is starting out with a groggy brain and a rainy sky.

My readability is still in Jr. High level. Hmmm I suppose it is due to the fact I HATE spending time away from gardening and rather than take the time to compose a highly articulate though, I am just ding a quick log of my doings.

(YES Michelle this is my excuse and I am sticking to it!)

So Whilst attempting to raise my vocabulary and understanding... (actually I understand it all fine, i just don't take the time to write it out in details )

I am busily reading Anna Karinnina Classic literature. very intriguing. it was recommended by LIA apx. 4 years ago, and I am finally attempting to finish it in one year, I have read 278 pgs. in 3 days. it is a challenge to find time to read while spring is upon us, I have so much to do.(yes, another excuse)

OK back to our regularly scheduled pancakes.....
(BTW Bella had her kids, one girl, one boy, and we sold her yesterday for $250.00)
((Gas $ for nauvoo! YEAH!))

Gardening 101

OK I have been busy busy planting.... I have finished one garden spot called
"Skembo's Small" And I am waiting for the row planter to plant my corn in "My" spot.

I will list some of the veggies I have planted so far:
Lettuce
Peppers
Tabasco peppers
jalepeno peppers
sweet peppers
chocolate peppers
Chinese five color peppers
spinach
sweet peas
Purple beans
Chinese Greens
Summer squash
Swiss chard
rocky top lettuce
onion seeds onion starts
Blue Potatoes
Yellow potatoes
Red potatoes
Peanuts
Strawberries

What am I missing? (no really if you can think of something that YOU wouldn't live without, give me a buzz!)

Most of these have been planted from 'starts' (see previous post with my front room being taken over by growing pots)

Now I will plant with a row planter the CORN! and Watermelon....Yummy!

I could live off corn & melon all summer long. Nothing is better...well OK I do need an occasional tomato off the vine, hot from the sun with that sweet syrupy flavor.

All my hard work will eventually pay off!

So plan a trip, come check out the garden, spend some time with me, (clean my kitchen while I play farmer)

Make a vacation of it and then... think about staying! ;)

We love, and can't wait to see LIA & FAMILY!!!

Friday Garage Sales

This morning was fun, we woke, did our morning routine in record time and went to 3 garage sales, And I scored BIG TIME! A man across the street from a garage sale we attended was taking down a chain link fence, HE gave me ALL of it! enough to enclose my garden from the chickens! He was very organized and meticulous about taking it down, so all the parts are available, This will save me TONS in fence parts.

Phew

Then the girls loaded up on Cr*p with their allowance, they bought toys, purses, dolls, and Zeke got a Sesame Street camera. I am sure these items will all end up in the trash within the month.

I got some cool baskets and a cigar box so that I can organize my dresser tops.

I made the cigar box into a 'catchall' for Wes's stuff.... he always has his ring, Ipod, Cell phone, wallet, Change, and other stuff he is hunting for when he is home, he says that if I had a place for ALL of his stuff he would not leave it laying around. Here is the test ;)

Lia said last night she is going to visit me, so the last week in May I get to have slumber party week, She and I never run out of things to tlak about, we have such a good time, I never laugh as hard with anyone else, Lia just brings the happiness right out of everyone!

I have allot of prep work for girls camp, and I need to get busy planning their rewards and camp necklaces.
Any ideas?

Funny thing about kids:

Why is it they have their own 27" TV in their play room, they can watch DVD's or VHS on it, but when I use the portable TV at a whopping 9" they all climb into bed with me and watch movies. Silly kids! tonight is 20,000 Leagues under the Sea... old school with Michael Douglas. Gotta love those cleft chins!

I am off for the night, with a full belly and an empty mind, what else have I got to discuss here tonight?

I am curious what the price of grapes are in YOUR neck of the woods? Curious so share in the comments if you can.

Chow for now.....

Glitch....

I have entered several posts in the past week, however they have disappeared into digital bliss, and all my thoughts are lost to me... and the world, what a sad day.

I have enjoyed a 3 day visit from my Cousin, Michelle Chandler and her adorable kids, Dumb me, I didn't get my camera out and take photos to document the event! (kicking myself now)

They are on their way to Nauvoo should be there within the hour. We Absolutely enjoyed seeing them, and realize it is too bad we don't make time for family (that we love) .

I had good news last week, Wes fixed my canon! Yep hooray
Photobucket

hallelujah!

Shout for JOY!

just in time to hear about the bill that came from my cell phone transmissions, YIKES! we shall not be doing that anymore!

So the house is coming along fine, but I have no new photos, the roof is on, the windows are almost completely done, and the electrical has begun, the power company installed the power lines up the driveway and we have an extremely ugly green box on the edge f the driveway that will eventually supply us our juice.

Good things:
1- having a garden and waiting for it to grow
2- knowing we have friends and family near and far who love us
3- Having a sure knowledge that the LORD has provided us with blessings
4- my children are mostly adorable 96% of the time
5- sleep is good
Photobucket
I have gotten allot accomplished this week, 2 gardens planted in cool weather seeds, made a trip to Winter Quarters Temple, cleaned as usual, our goat 'Angel' birthed triplets, and had a scrumptious visit with Michele and family.

We were going to have a camp out on Friday but it is being re-scheduled to May 21st. mostly because I need Wes home to stay with the kidlets while i play camp director .
